A book review by Dan Strickland:
This past week I came across a book that I think will help Living Free group facilitators be better equipped to lead their groups. It is Seeking God Together: An Introduction to Group Spiritual Direction and is written by Alice Fryling.
While not exactly related to our type of small group, it has tremendous relevance for facilitators as they help people turn to God and his resources when experiencing life's problems.
It is an easy-to-read book of 150 pages presented in 13 chapters that cover topics such as: The Power of Listening; Asking Life-Giving Questions; Exploring Thoughts and Feelings; Meditating on Scripture Together; Sin, Conviction and Confession; Sharing the Journey of Prayer; and Temperament and How We Communicate. It is easy to see how these topics relate to our desire in LF groups to create an environment where God's Word, God's Spirit, and God's people work together to help people grow toward Christian maturity.
As with any book, you may disagree with some of the viewpoints, but Core Teams and facilitators will find plenty of good material here for discussions in Core Team meetings and facilitator enrichment.
